Below is a step-by-step guide to help one obtain an Illinois roofing license.

Gather Necessary Documents

Before applying, you’ll need to have the following documents ready: Before applying, you’ll need to have the following documents ready:

- Proof of Liability Insurance: It is also important that you have your $500,000 contractor liability insurance policy documents with you. The original emphasis on licensure has been retained and this is required of all students.

- Proof of Workers’ Compensation Insurance: This certificate may include your workers’ compensation insurance if you have it or an exemption if you don’t have any employees.

- Surety Bond: Secure a $10,000 surety bond and ensure that the bond number is always at your fingertips.

- Government-Issued Photo ID: It is recommended to take a scanned copy of your driver’s license, passport or any other identification card to be uploaded.

- Education Records: Applicants may be required to supply high school or General Education Development (GED) records or roofing related training certificates.

Complete the Application Form

After getting the above documents, you can then fill the Roofing Contractor license on the IDFPR website. Some of the sections in the form include your address, insurance and/or bonding proofs, education background, and your experience in roofing.

Make sure you complete each section and make sure that all information given is correct. Ensure that the details entered in the application are correct before submitting the form because mistakes will postpone the application processing. You will also need to fill in the $75 application fee on the form that you are to complete.

Schedule Your Exam

When your application is complete, the IDFPR will send you an exam authorization where you will be allowed to book for the Roofing Contractor exam. This is a proctored multiple choice assessment which deals with roofing practices, code, standard and regulation. It is comprised of 50 questions in total and to pass it, one needs to score a minimum of 70 percent.

Prepare for this important test with the help of the materials and guides, which are used in the studying process. Take it as soon as possible at one of the IDFPR’s testing facilities listed above. We have discussed that you should bring your identification and the authorization of the exam to the testing site.

Get Licensed

After the Roofing test, congratulations! Once you complete the IDFPR licensing examination, your official Illinois Roofing License number will be issued to you. Which enables one to legally offer and obtain roofing services contracts in the state of Illinois. It is also important to take care that the new license number is well outlined in all advertising media and vehicles as required by the states.

Remember also that your roofing license for instance has a validity period of two years and this means that you will have to renew it before the expiry date in order for it to remain valid. This entails a process of merely renewing and acknowledging that your insurance/bonding is still valid for renewal.

While there are some different facets of the application process, if you follow the steps outlined in this guide, the journey to obtaining the Illinois roofing contractor license will be seamless. Feel free to ask me anything else related to the Illinois roofing certifications, if it can be of help to you.
